I am writing this post today as Russia celebrates International Women’s Day, or March 8th, as it is popularly known, to honor and acknowledge my understanding of mother-daughter bonding. This day is also the closest Russia gets to celebrating Mother’s Day.

I am the mother of two daughters – one an old wise soul, stable and consistent, the other a younger troubled soul, vacillating and rebellious. I love them both unconditionally and understand how they each need to express and experience their own essence.

Through my Steps practice and through reclaiming Knowledge, I am gaining deeper insight into the mother-daughter bonding I have always felt but not consciously experienced until now. I have a bond with my daughters that transcends the physical plane with its expectations, disappointments, speculation, and personal preferences to reach a spiritual level where I know them at a deeper level and recognize them as beings I have a relationship with beyond this world.

This spiritual level is the place where Knowledge resides. This is the place where my Spiritual Family resides. This is a place where we are all united in a special bond of love and wellbeing.

Mother-Daughter Bonding

I chose this picture of my daughters taken over twenty years ago because the expression on their faces is the epitome of their essence. I have this theory that people really do not change much in their essence throughout their lives. The sense I had of my children’s essence when they were born has remained unchanged to this day, even though they are now grown. And when I look back on old photographs I see that essence shining through. The things I “knew” about my daughters then hold true today. And I continue to know them at a soul level, which is very different from knowing them at the physical level. It is a knowing that transcends all understanding, it is a knowing that comes from Knowledge.

In the Introduction to Steps to Knowledge: The Book of Inner Knowing, I read:

Knowledge is the deeper spiritual mind that the Creator has given to each person. It is the source of all meaningful action, contribution and relationships. It is our natural Inner Guidance system. Its reality is mysterious, but its Presence can be directly experienced. Knowledge is remarkably wise and effective in guiding each person in finding his or her right relationships, work and contribution. It is equally effective in preparing one to recognize the many pitfalls and deceptions that exist along the way. It is the basis for seeing, knowing, and acting with certainty and strength. It is the foundation of life.

Mother-daughter bonding is intrinsically pure and deeper than the physical plane. It contains within it the depth of Knowledge. Knowledge is the foundation of life and on this foundation all meaningful relationships are based. I feel this today with every fiber of my being.

In closing, I would like to share my favorite poem On Children by Kahlil Gibran. This sums up mother-daughter bonding for me.
