I Too Dwell In Possibility

Emily Dickinson (1830-1886), American poet

This poem by American poet Emily Dickinson was published in 1890, four years after her death. I am sharing it with you because it describes something of my experience of being a student of the New Message from God. I too dwell in possibility.

I dwell in Possibility

I dwell in Possibility –
A fairer House than Prose –
More numerous of Windows –
Superior – for Doors –

Of Chambers as the Cedars –
Impregnable of eye –
And for an everlasting Roof
The Gambrels of the Sky –

Of Visitors – the fairest –
For Occupation – This –
The spreading wide my narrow Hands
To gather Paradise –

I too dwell in possibility

I too dwell in possibility
Step 135 of Steps to Knowledge

I too dwell in possibility. The New Message from God speaks of a future that will not be a linear extension of the past. Some people now can envision the difficulties of a less predictable climate. Others can now envision the consequences of environmental degradation. But the New Message from God is predicting some things that no one I know of is envisioning.

It’s not all bad news

First sentence of “The Great Warning,” Chapter 2 of the book “The New World”

The New Message from God warns humanity to prepare for a stressful future. This is from the revelation “The Great Warning.”

“God has sent the New Message to the world at a great turning point for the human family—a turning point for which you are unprepared and unaware, a turning point that is so great that it will alter the course of life for everyone here today, and the future of everyone to come in this world.”

It is true that the New Message from God predicts an increasingly difficult world over a certain time period. The New Message from God predicts a world of diminishing resources, affected climate, environmental degradation, and extraterrestrial intervention. But what if humanity responds effectively? What if humanity brings forth the strength required to meet these great challenges? What if humanity becomes a unified nation? That is the possibility in which I dwell. In this dwelling of possibility, I am eagerly expecting the fairest of visitors.

An Increasingly Difficult World

Pile of Bison skulls 1870. An increasingly difficult world

At the 2018 Encampment of the New Message from God, we engaged with the phrase “a New World reality.” The previous post addressed the “reality” part. This post addresses the “New World” part.

Ants carrying leaves, preparing for the future. An increasingly difficult world

An increasingly difficult world

The New World is the title of the the soon-to-be-published Book 5 of Volume 1 of the New Message from God. I can imagine that some people read the words “New World” and think of great abundance and discovery. Flying cars, vacations on Mars, and so forth. But the New Message is speaking of a world where a 250-year period of explosive growth is coming to an end. The New Message is speaking of an increasingly difficult world. The chapters of The New World include:

The Global Emergency
Being Centered in a Crashing World
The Great Warning
Entering the New World
The Race to Save Human Civilization
The Shock of the Future
Poverty
What Will Save Humanity

I have written a series of posts on The Race to Save Human Civilization. I once thought these teachings spoke of events in the next hundred years or so. As I pondered these teachings at the 2018 Encampment, I reconsidered their time frame. There are relatively few references to events taking place by a certain time. But the New Message teaches that the previous revelation came roughly 1,400 years ago. These teachings may speak of things to come in the seemingly distant future. However, there are signs and harbingers in the world today. And yet, there are things that must be done now to prepare for an increasingly difficult world.

A great warning. An increasingly difficult world.

A world of declining resources

This phrase is used many times in the New Message from God to describe the human future. Another image frequently used to describe this is a growing number of people drinking from a slowly shrinking well. This could mean an absolute decline in resources. This could mean a decline in the amount of resources available for a given amount of money. I can understand the skepticism some people might feel, as certain warnings of declining resources in the past have not come true. But how long can the current arrangement last? A significant increase in the cost of energy would make for an increasingly difficult world.

A sunset. An increasingly difficult world

A world of affected climate

The New Message from God uses this word to describe a climate affected by human activity to such an extent that the climate has begun to change on its own, in ways that will be less hospitable to human activity. The future climate will make for an increasingly difficult world. The future will have many more unexpected weather events. Agriculture will be disrupted by an unexpected climate. Because of this, some currently habitable regions will become uninhabitable. The sea levels will rise to a greater extent than that currently predicted by any scientist. I realize I sound a lot like the doom-mongers I have mocked in the past. But I believe these events are taking place over a longer time-frame than most scientists or politicians consider.

A garbage dump in the future. An increasingly difficult world.

A world with a deteriorated environment

The New Message from God teaches that humanity has affected the chemistry of the atmosphere, the waters and the soils. And not in a good way, either. Therefore, there will be a great deal of work to be done in the future of cleansing the atmosphere, the waters and the soils. There will be a great deal of work to be done in the future of lightening humanity’s environmental impact. All this will make for an increasingly difficult world.

A girl faces the universe. An increasingly difficult world

A world facing intervention

The New Message from God teaches that humanity is facing intervention from extraterrestrial races. This intervention is directly related to humanity’s destructive patterns of environmental use and consumption. Suppose an isolated tribe in the world were discovered to be destroying their environment. Some nation might feel they were doing that tribe a favor by intervening. Humanity is in that situation now.

An increasingly difficult world

I realize this is a collection of negative predictions for humanity’s future. However, I take consolation that a warning is being given with directions for preparation. The good news is that the bad news isn’t all the news. The Book of Proverbs declares “Faithful are the wounds of a friend.” (Proverbs 27:6, King James Version). How shall we prepare? That’s for another post. But the “New World reality” of the New Message from God is a future with an increasingly difficult world.

How Do We Handle A Hundred Harveys?

Houston on August 28, 2017. How do we handle a hundred Harveys?

Many have reported the enormous damage of Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, Jose and Maria. The New Message from God frames these events in the context of what it calls the Great Waves of Change. What are the Great Waves of Change? A series of big, ongoing disruptions in the near and not-so-near future.

How do we handle a hundred Harveys?

Why do I even think that we have to handle a hundred Harveys? Climate scientists such as Sean Sublette and Adam Sobel and Gerry Bell study hurricanes. They suggest that rising sea levels and warming oceans cause hurricanes to be stronger. They might be right. The New Message from God has a teaching called “The Great Warning,” which goes along with the predictions of some scientists. This is a portion of that teaching.

For you [humanity] have changed the chemistry of the atmosphere so sufficiently that the planet will become hotter and the waters will rise. The oceans will rise and they will continue to rise, consuming everything in their wake. Great droughts and storms will lash upon the world as they are beginning to do now.

How do we handle a hundred Harveys? We have to prepare. And by “We” I mean “you and me.” When seconds count, the police are only minutes away. When minutes count, the National Guard is only hours away. When hours count, the government is only days away. There are some small, but eminently practical things an ordinary person can do, such as not freaking out, speaking clearly and calmly to the emergency operator, staying safe, moving an injured person to safety if possible, stopping the bleeding, putting the injured in a safe position, and providing comfort.

How do we handle a hundred Harveys? We have to prepare. And by “We” I mean “our businesses.” There is one particular business I wish to commend.
Waffle House. How do we handle a hundred Harveys?Waffle House restaurants have acquired a reputation for resiliency in the face of natural disasters. Waffle House started in 1955, and a majority of their 2,100 franchises are in the southern United States. Did they recognize that staying open during a disaster was a service to the community? Did they recognize that staying open during a disaster was profitable? I don’t know. All I know at this point is a great deal of pre-disaster planning and preparation has already been done:

Hurricane preparation for many can be a scramble, but for Waffle House, it’s a game of chess with military-style strategy and execution. Before a storm hits, and even before hurricane season, the company makes storm checklists for each location, meets with local authorities, and educates new employees, though many have been through 15 hurricanes.

How do we handle a hundred Harveys? Was their preparation effective? These pictures were taken in the Houston area some time on August 28, 2017:

Houston on August 28 2017. How do we handle a hundred Harveys?Houston on August 28, 2017. How do we handle a hundred Harveys?

But it was reported that each and every Waffle House restaurant in the metro Houston area was open on this day. One lesson to be learned from this is that part of successfully navigating the difficult times ahead involves preparation, not only for you, but for other people.

How do we handle a hundred Harveys? I realize all these words about climate science and disaster preparedness and logistics may seem quite…un-spiritual. But what if we came to the world to serve the world, instead of avoiding the world or escaping the world? What if your preparation ends up saving a life?
