The Seas Will Rise. The Lands Will Dry

The seas will rise. The lands will dry

This is the fifth post in a series of posts on the revelation “The Great Turning Point for Humanity.” This revelation is a small part of the New Message from God. The first post is here. The previous post is here.

What have we seen so far? What portion of humanity will respond and prepare for the great changes it faces? The changes of declining resources, affected climate, environmental destruction, and extraterrestrial intervention? It seems to require a conviction that one came to the world to face these times. This seems to be part of the preparation offered by the New Message from God

The seas will rise. The lands will dry

The following is the 28th paragraph of this teaching. I will add my experience of each paragraph in brackets.

What will drive you is urgency. You might be frightened at the beginning, but beyond this, it will be Knowledge that will carry you forward, for it is without fear. It is eternal. It is the part of you that is eternal that is still connected to its Source. It wants to keep you alive and protect you and guide you so that you can give to the world what you were sent to give, to play your small but important part, which will fulfill you in this life and justify your being here.

[Fright isn’t good enough, because many people consider fright as a means of manipulation. The Knowledge spoken of by the New Message from God is so much greater than a body of information. It can give a person the strength to meet life’s great challenges.]

You will not respond until you can face the reality that is coming. It is greater than you can think of at this moment. But We can paint some pictures for you so you may have an idea of its scope and its power.

[The seas will rise. the lands will dry. The New Message from God has gone to great lengths to avoid catastrophic language in describing the future, using phrases such as “great waves of change,” “a new world reality,” and “a great turning point for humanity.” I sometimes think the point of that is to get me and other readers thinking, “How will I respond and prepare for this?]

Large parts of the world will become uninhabitable, where many great populations already reside. What will they do? Where will they go? Who will accept them into their nations?

[The seas will rise. the lands will dry. In the United States, there has been great contention over immigration. I can only imagine the situation if people are immigrating to survive. You may have to take care of someone who has had to move from the arid regions of the world. Who knows, you may have to move and someone may have to take care of you. How can you strengthen yourself in the face of these possibilities?]

There will be great loss of food production in the future as the world becomes drier, hotter, difficult to navigate.

[The world becoming drier and hotter is predicted by many climate scientists. Farming regions may need the building of an irrigation infrastructure. Water that can help food grow will be highly valuable.]

Everything that is important in your life will come down to very elemental things for your well-being and for your ability to make a constructive difference in this new world reality.

[The seas will rise. The lands will dry. Perhaps you have plans for your future. You will discover how vulnerable these plans are to the great changes coming to the world. But growing population and declining food production means more expensive food. More expensive food means more expensive everything.]

The seas will rise. The lands will dry. Whole cities will have to be abandoned. Whole coastlines will have to be abandoned. Not in some future century, but in this century. Not tomorrow, but it is coming.

[In an earlier paragraph, it was asked “Who has the foresight to do what must be done today before the waters rise and the lands dry out?” Maybe you thought they were being alarmist to make a point. But they are serious. When they said “Large parts of the world will become uninhabitable, where many great populations already reside,” I believe they referred to people in arid regions and people in coastal cities.

I believe someone is reading the paragraph with the words “Who has the foresight to do what must be done today before the waters rise and the lands dry out? You have this power within you, but it is unknown to you yet.” I believe they are saying “I want to know this power within me. I want the foresight to do what must be done today.]

What Did Martin Luther Really Know?

What did Martin Luther really know?
Luther at the Diet of Worms, by Anton von Werner, 1877

An important event in the history of Christianity occurred almost exactly 500 years ago. The event is the defense of Martin Luther (1483-1546) at the Diet [Assembly] of Worms of 1521. This defense was given on April 18, 1521.

What did Martin Luther really know?

This controversy began in October of 1517, when Luther posted the 95 Theses on the door of the church in Wittenburg. The 95 Theses were a rebuke of the sale of papal indulgences. Basically, by purchasing an indulgence, an individual could reduce the length and severity of punishment that heaven would require as payment for their sins, or so the church claimed.

Luther was summoned to the Diet of Worms to respond to the Papal Bull of 1520, and either recant or reaffirm his views. The events of April 18 are well documented. I find most of Luther’s defense to be relatively ordinary. I believe he considered it his duty to expose corruption in the church. If he were to recant, he would be enabling corrupt practices. He admitted to harsh tone, but not to the substance of his indictments. But there was something he said at the end of his defense that struck like thunder for me.

“Unless I am convinced by the testimony of the Scriptures or by clear reason (for I do not trust either in the pope or in councils alone, since it is well known that they have often erred and contradicted themselves), I am bound by the Scriptures I have quoted and my conscience is captive to the Word of God. I cannot and will not recant anything, since it is neither safe nor right to go against conscience. May God help me. Amen.”

While Luther was declared a heretic in May of 1521 by Emperor Charles V, he found safety under the protection of Frederick III, Elector of Saxony. During this time, Luther began a German translation of the Bible.

Responding to a deeper conscience

What did Martin Luther really know? I believe Martin Luther responded to a deeper conscience. This deeper conscience is called “Knowledge” by the New Message from God. Here is a description of this deeper conscience. It is found in the revelation “How to Live.”

“This deeper conscience [that God has placed within you] is not your social conscience. It is not what you have been taught to believe, or to think you must do, or what society says is right and wrong, proper or improper. Your fundamental conscience is deeper than this. It is established within you and all sentient beings. But in this world and in other worlds as well, this deeper conscience can go unrecognized, and social conditioning can replace it as a criteria for how to live and how to establish the guidelines for what is proper and creative and beneficial, and what is not.

Society’s conscience is very compromised. It may hold high values, but it does not insist upon highly ethical behavior. It may claim to have the moral high ground, but once you begin to consider its application, it is full of compromises and accommodations.

God has placed a deeper conscience within you, a conscience called Knowledge. It is the Knowledge of what is right and wrong. Even if intellectually you find yourself at an impasse regarding deciding something, whether it is right or wrong, at a deeper level you can discern the truth. You may experience a conundrum within your intellect as ideas clash and values clash at the surface of your mind, but deeper down beneath the surface of your mind is God’s deeper Conscience. Here the right decision can be made—even if it is expensive, even if it creates disadvantages in the moment, even if it seems to deprive you of opportunities or approval from others.

This deeper Knowledge that God has placed within you is entirely ethical and moral, but at a greater level. It is uncompromising. It is powerful. And people who can respond to this end up being the great humanitarians and the great innovators. They hold humanity to a higher standard. They reveal injustices. They speak of a greater moral and civic responsibility. While others fall into a life of conflict and compromise, they hold to a higher standard. These individuals are often maligned and rejected in their own lives and sometimes celebrated after they pass away, after they are no longer a social problem, an irritant.”

What does it mean to know something?

It could also be said that Martin Luther knew something. What does it mean to know something, according to the standard of Knowledge? I have tried to describe this on multiple occasions. My current attempt is this. To know something is to “to experience something as self-evident, and needing all the love I can give.” I say that by that definition, Martin Luther knew something. He knew that the practice of indulgences was a manipulation of religious sentiment for financial gain. He knew the Church found this arrangement to be acceptable. He knew that the people needed revelation in their own language to resist this manipulation.

Christians around the world are celebrating the 500th anniversary of Martin Luther’s defense. I am grateful for Martin Luther’s response to his deeper conscience. I am grateful for Martin Luther knowing something. When someone knows something, the world moves forward.

Mysterious But Eminently Practical

Mysterious but eminently practical

This is another in a series of posts containing my Amazon reviews of the books of the New Message from God. The books I have reviewed so far are:

The Great Waves of Change (Volume 5, Book 3)
Steps to Knowledge (Volume 3, Book 1)
Life in the Universe (Volume 5, Book 2)
God Has Spoken Again (Volume 1, Book 1)
The One God (Volume 1, Book 2)
The New Messenger (Volume 1, Book 3)

This is a review of the the book Wisdom from the Greater Community, Book One. It is now Volume 6, Book 1 of the New Message from God. I am adding commentary in brackets.

Mysterious but eminently practical

Wisdom from the Greater Community, Book One is the first book to be published of the teachings of Marshall Vian Summers. It is the first book of what would only much later come to be known as the New Message from God. In the late 1980’s, Marshall Summers traveled around the United States, channeling teachings with small groups of curious individuals. The enthusiasm of the response led to the publication of this book in the early 1990’s. It is as if the source of these teachings “wished” to establish a certain credibility, by addressing important aspects of the human experience.

[In the time period that these teachings emerged, one thing they were called is “The Greater Community Way of Knowledge.” The name “New Message from God” did not emerge until the mid 00’s. It is documented where each teaching emerged.]

There are 35 chapters in this book. None of them are particularly long. They don’t have to be read in chapter order to gain the benefit. This book takes something of an oblique approach, in that it speaks of the necessary aspects of some seemingly mysterious things, such as humanity’s emergence into a “Greater Community” of intelligent life. It addresses important subjects, but there is a connection with relatively unknown subjects, most notably the development of “Knowledge” in the individual. All of the chapters in this book were received before the book “Steps to Knowledge” in May-June 1989. These chapters could therefore be thought of as how Knowledge, the deeper spiritual intelligence that God has placed in every individual in every world, could be applied to the human experience. The reader has a good chance of reading things they have never read before. Therefore, it is important to approach this book with an open mind and heart, so that it can reveal its wisdom.

[Here are the chapters in this book

Chapter 1: The Greater Religion
Chapter 2: Relationships and Sexuality
Chapter 3: Greater Community
Chapter 4: Trust
Chapter 5: Marriage
Chapter 6: Health
Chapter 7: Freedom
Chapter 8: Preparing for the Future
Chapter 9: Spiritual Truths
Chapter 10: Service in the World
Chapter 11: Power and Responsibility
Chapter 12: Love
Chapter 13: Spiritual Community
Chapter 14: World Evolution
Chapter 15: Giving I
Chapter 16: Giving II
Chapter 17: Mastery
Chapter 18: Higher Education
Chapter 19: Fulfillment
Chapter 20: Inner Listening
Chapter 21: Enduring Happiness
Chapter 22: Escaping Suffering
Chapter 23: Forgiveness
Chapter 24: Happiness in the World
Chapter 25: Escaping Fear
Chapter 26: Stillness
Chapter 27: Disappointment

Chapter 30: Perception
Chapter 31: Healing
Chapter 32: Achievement
Chapter 33: Provoking Change
Chapter 34: Religion as Education
Chapter 35: Achieving Peace]

One minor technical note is that when the book was first published, it was called “Wisdom from the Greater Community, Volume 1.” In later publications, it will be known as “Wisdom from the Greater Community, Book 1” This is because this book is Book 1 of Volume 6 of the New Message from God, and it was awkward to use the word volume to refer to a book in a volume with multiple books.

[Mysterious but eminently practical. If you wished to investigate the New Message from God to see if it is something for you to follow, this would be an excellent book to read.]
