Steps to Knowledge, the book of spiritual practice of the New Message from God, entered the world during a 20-day period in 1989. The New Message community has been celebrating that event in a series of webcasts called the Steps Vigil. Steps to Knowledge is 29 years old, as it were. During the Steps Vigil, we listened to portions of Steps to Knowledge in other languages.

Let this teaching find its place among my people

Steps to Knowledge is part of a much larger body of material. Marshall Vian Summers received this material over a period from 1982 to the present. The New Message from God presents itself as the latest in a series of divine revelations to humanity. This series includes the teachings of Buddha, Jesus and Mohammed. When these revelations appeared, it was not immediately clear they should be translated into the languages of the world. But people of many faiths have observed that people learn the teachings of a religion best in their own heart language. Bible translator John Wycliffe (c. 1320-1384) wrote, “it helpeth Christian men to study the Gospel in that tongue in which they know best Christ’s sentence.” Translating Steps to Knowledge into other languages is comparable to translating a small portion of the Tripitaka, or a book of the Bible, or a Surah of the Qur’an.

Let this teaching find its place among my people. There are books that are written in a given year, in a given language. People translate relatively few of them into other languages. Therefore, I take great encouragement that people have fully translated Steps to Knowledge from English into 11 different languages, including…

Furthermore, translation is in progress in 10 other languages.

It should be noted that professional translators did not create these translations. Student practitioners created these translations. People who practiced Steps to Knowledge in English, who spoke another language as their primary language. “Native speakers” of Steps to Knowledge created these translations. I have heard the testimonies of a number of these translators. Some of the translators encountered the New Message and thought to themselves, “This must be shared.” Some of the translators shared “I trusted my deepest inclinations,” as they described their path into translation. Let this teaching find its place among my people. When Steps to Knowledge was received in 1989, it was only available in the heart language of roughly 300 million people.

It is now available in the heart language of roughly 2.4 billion people. That works out to about three doublings over 29 years, or about one doubling every ten years. If we continue on the current trajectory, Steps to Knowledge should be available to most of the people of the world in their heart language in about 30 years.

I hope and believe that one day, there will be a translation of Steps to Knowledge in each of the 6,909 languages of the world. I realize that may seem ambitious, but look how far we’ve come in 29 years. Let this teaching find its place among my people.

Золотая Нить

Празднование 29-ой годовщины “Шагов к Знанию” пришло к концу. Я сумела присутствовать в реальном времени в течение всего 20-дневного периода этого события, передачи которого транслировались каждое утро в 4.00 по московскому времени. Для меня это было время размышления и самооценки.

Я задавала себе следующие вопросы: “Где я?” “Как я себя чувствую?” “Куда я иду?” “Что я должна знать [в определённой ситуации]?” “Что я должна сделать?” И самый важный вопрос: “Что я должна делать в своей жизни в это время?” Я размышляю над этими вопросами, без спешки, а пребывая в “здесь и сейчас”, прислушиваясь к своим мыслям и эмоциям, к побуждениям Знания внутри себя. Ведь Знание сопровождает меня всю свою жизнь, и я не вижу оснований сомневаться, что так и будет всегда.

Во время празднования “Шагов к Знанию”, многие откликнувшиеся поделились своими историями. Я тоже подумала о том, чем я бы поделилась.

Золотая Нить Знания

Приветствую всех. Меня зовут Алиса и я – ученица Нового Послания от Бога. Я учусь с октября 2012г., когда я начала практиковать Шаги к Знанию. Я сразу занялась вплотную и с тех пор никогда не жалела о принятом решении. Я всю жизнь, как мне видится, была в поиске некой духовной истины. А так случилось, что в течение нескольких месяцев, прежде чем я нашла Новое Послание, я пережила резкий духовный спад. Ничего меня не вдохновило или импонировало. Я вроде всё перепробовала и исчерпала все свои ресурсы. Я зашла в тупик. Тогда я обратилась к Вселенной с просьбой, “Покажи меня что-то новое, сногсшибательное”. Вскоре после этого я увидела название учения “Великая Любовь” и имя Маршалл Виан Саммерс на Файсбуке. Я увидела слово “Знание” с большой буквой и что-то пошевелилось внутри.

Я теперь понимаю, что Знание всегда было со мной, и я была со Знанием, хотя несознательно. Я вижу Золотую Нить Знания, пробегающего через всю мою жизнь.

Она проходит со времени, когда я начала изучать русский язык в средней школе в Англии, до того времени, когда я училась в университете в Сан-Антонио, Техас, где я продолжала изучать русский язык и моя преподавательница подтолкнула меня к тому, чтобы участвовать в учебной программе в Советском Союзе, до моего прибытия в Москву в 1981г. и судьбоносной встречи с любимом человеком в одной из станции Московского метро, до моего возвращения в Москву в 1990г. вместе с американском мужем и двумя маленькими дочками и воссоединения с моим русским возлюбленном, до обнаружению того, благодаря моего пребывания в Анонимных Алкоголиках, что умею писать и общаться на русском, и наконец до того момента, когда я нашла Новое Послание от Бога и тут же загорела желанием перевести “Шаги к Знанию” на русский язык.

Россия, кажется, еще не готова принять Шаги к Знанию, но мой вклад, вместе с другими русскими переводчиками, прокладывает путь для этого принятия в будущем, может быть… И это все, что я могу сделать на данный момент.

Вдобавок, я хочу сказать, что каждый раз, когда я стояла перед важным решением, я никогда не колебалась. Не взвешивала “про и контра”. Я не сомневалась в правильности принятого решения. Знание пребывало с мной и вело меня в нужном направлении. Я совершила прыжок в неизвестность и удачно приземлилась.

Я это теперь понимаю задним умом. Я не знала это в то время. Но теперь я вижу, что золотая нить Знания провожала и продолжает проводить меня по жизни.

The Golden Thread of Knowledge

The 20-day period in commemoration of the reception of Steps to Knowledge by Marshall Vian Summers between May 26-June 14, 1989 has come to a close.

For me, it has been a time of introspection and stock-taking. It has brought up questions such as, “Where am I now?” “How do I feel?” “Where am I going?” “What do I need to know here?” “What do I need to do?” And the most important question posed by Reed on the last day of the Vigil: “What must I be doing in my life at this time?” I am being with these questions, exploring them with no sense of urgency or haste, but remembering to remain present, present to my state, present to my thoughts and emotions, present to the promptings of Knowledge within me. For Knowledge has been my unfailing guide throughout my life to date, and I see no reason to doubt it will continue to be so.

I have particularly been enjoying listening to the testimonials of students of the New Message shared during this Vigil, both those by students from afar and those shared by the students hosting the broadcasts each day. The other day I found myself imagining that I was hosting one of the Vigil broadcasts and thinking about what I might say. Here is what came to mind.

Greetings everyone. My name is Alisa and I am a student of the New Message from God. I have been a student since October 2012, which is when I began taking the Steps to Knowledge. I jumped right in and have never looked back since. I feel I have been on a spiritual journey all my life, but for several months before I found the New Message I had been experiencing a spiritual slump. Nothing inspired me or was moving me forward anymore. I felt as though I had “been there,” “done that,” and exhausted all of my resources. So I appealed to the Universe, beseeching, “Show me something new that will knock my socks off.” Shortly thereafter, I happened across The Great Love teaching and the name Marshall Vian Summers on Facebook. I saw the word “Knowledge” and something lit up inside.

I now understand that Knowledge has always been with me and I have been, albeit unconsciously until I found the NM, with Knowledge. I can see the Golden Thread of Knowledge running through my life.

It runs from the time I began studying Russian in secondary school in England, to my college days in San Antonio, Texas, where I continued studying Russian and was encouraged by my professor to participate in a semester study program in the Soviet Union, to coming to Moscow in 1981 and making my sacred rendezvous at the top of the escalator in a Moscow subway station, to returning to Moscow in 1990 with my young family in tow and reconnecting with my husband-to-be, to discovering I had a Russian “tongue” through my participation in Alcoholics Anonymous, and finally to finding the New Message and immediately being filled with a burning desire to translate Steps to Knowledge into Russian.

Russia may not be ready for the Steps to Knowledge yet, but my contribution in this capacity is preparing the way. That is all I can do.

The Golden Thread of Knowledge

At each of these major milestones in my life, I was never in a quandary. I never found myself weighing up the pros and cons regarding the decisions I had to make, I just made them. There was never any doubt in mind, any restraint, any fear. I was on a freedom journey and my Teachers were by my side.

I understand all this in retrospect now. I did not know it at the time. I just took a leap of faith and landed with my feet on the ground. I continue on my freedom journey with my Teachers by my side and Knowledge abiding in the sacred sanctuary within me.
