Who Had The Vision To See The Danger?

Who had the vision to see the danger?

Who had the vision to see the danger? What have we seen so far? Humanity faces wrenching adjustments, due to a disrupted climate, due to destructive use of a lush, abundant world. This destructive use came from ignoring the deeper intelligence within us. Our political and religious leaders are blind to these adjustments, as they only see the future as more of the past. This is the twentieth paragraph.

“All of this is inevitable, you see, given humanity’s attitudes, its use of the world and humanity’s relations between nations. Of course, you would reach a point of saturation. Of course, you would affect the world in such a way that the world would respond not to your benefit. Of course, you would hit a crisis point.”

Who had the vision to see the danger? At this point, I’m recalling the words of 20th Century American author Robert Heinlein in “Time Enough for Love”:

“No man is an island — ” Much as we may feel and act as Individuals, our race is — a single organism, always growing and branching — which must be pruned regularly to be healthy. This necessity need not be argued; anyone with eyes can see that any organism which grows without limit always dies in its own poisons.

I remember being taught as a Boy Scout that every natural environment had a certain “carrying capacity,” an ability to support a certain amount of life. When the amount of life in that environment exceeded the carrying capacity, there was either migration or starvation. The world is no different, it has a certain carrying capacity, but humanity acts as if it wasn’t going to hit a limit anytime soon.

Getting back to Marshall Vian Summers:

“There are visionary individuals who have seen this coming. But humanity is deaf and blind and dumb and proceeds willfully in its pursuits of wealth and power—easily corrupted, easily misled, desperate amongst its poorer peoples, unable to control its population, unable to control its use of resources, unable to restrain its conflicts and its historical prejudices. Like a willful child, it is going headlong into the future—heedless, not thinking ahead, not looking ahead, only meeting the needs of the day.”

Who had the vision to see the danger? I consider R. Buckminster Fuller to be one of those visionary individuals. In 1968, he published the book “Operating Manual for Spaceship Earth,” a collection of ideas for an indefinitely sustainable world. Some people in my world consider Jacque Fresco to be another visionary. The average human being is such that if there are 7 billion of them in a group, they are deaf and blind and dumb, proceeding willfully in their pursuits of wealth and power, etc.

“At this moment, you can stand in the middle of a city of two million people and in 20 years, it will be desolate. What will happen? How will the world respond? If you can see without prejudice and fear, it will become apparent to you. You do not have to be a genius to see this. You only have to be wise and objective. But how people respond is a question that you cannot foretell. People can choose how they will respond. There is choice at this level.”

Who had the vision to see the danger? The city in which this revelation was received was Aleppo, Syria, which was a city of two million people in 2009, when this revelation was received. Reed Summers, son of Marshall Vian Summers wrote of those days here. I have written about what has happened since that time here. What is Aleppo now? A plundered, looted heap of fallen ruin, well on its way to being desolate in the year 2029. I regret to inform you that without a lot of magnanimity and cooperation on the part of a lot of people, that is the world’s future.

Is finding God merely difficult, instead of tricky?

Is God hiding in plain sight, in the guise of the least of these?

Dear God, can the veil of my vanity be rent, that I might touch thy holy feet?

Have I come to this world to find God in the poorest, the lowliest and the lost?

I have written a number of posts about the New Message from God revelation, “The Race to Save Human Civilization.” Humanity is indicted for plundering and looting a beautiful world. Individuals are indicted for ignoring their deeper intelligence. Political leaders and religious leaders are indicted as blind guides leading the blind. There is a message of hope, but I haven’t written about it yet. Therefore, I am in great need of poetry at this time, to strengthen my soul. What shall I do in the face of the Great Waves of Change, a predicted series of large, ongoing disruptions in the not-too-distant future? In the difficult times ahead, you and I might meet some of the poorest, the lowliest and the lost. They might be migrating from a place where they can no longer live. Rabindranath Tagore wrote a poem about them (#10 in Gitanjali)

Here is thy footstool and there rest thy feet where live the poorest, and lowliest, and lost.

When I try to bow to thee, my obeisance cannot reach down to the depth where thy feet rest among the poorest, and lowliest, and lost.

Pride can never approach to where thou walkest in the clothes of the humble among the poorest, and lowliest, and lost.

My heart can never find its way to where thou keepest company with the companionless among the poorest, the lowliest, and the lost.

Who Or What Will Guide Us Through The Narrows?

Who or what will guide us through the narrows?

What have we seen so far? Humanity faces wrenching adjustments from a disrupted climate. Many inhabited places, most notably in the arid regions of the world, will become inhabitable. These changes will cause large human migrations, resulting in great stress and difficulty. This is the seventeenth paragraph.

“There will not be enough surplus food to simply ship out to stricken nations. There will not be enough. If humanity loses a percentage of its food production, it does not matter how much money is spent. The world is being exhausted. Are you going to exhaust it even more and more and more?”

Who or what will guide us through the narrows? While on a hiking trip in the Sierra Mountains of California, our guide told us “In the mountains, food is money.” I envision that in the future described by this revelation, food and clean water will be precious like money. In a previous paragraph, it was said that humanity would lose 30% of its agriculture. Hard choices are going to have to be made. Humanity’s current pattern of resource consumption and environmental use is not sustainable.

“This is the great uncertainty in the situation—how humanity will respond? What is human response-ability? Even the leaders of nations are blind. Even the leaders of religious institutions are blind. They only see the world as they are accustomed to see the world. They only see the world in terms of what they can expect and believe to be true from the past. But these things will no longer hold true.”

Who or what will guide us through the narrows? I realize this is a scathing indictment. But isn’t this the way most people see the future, in a context that the future will be an extension of the past, only with different names and faces? As I read this paragraph, I recall the times Jesus referred to the leaders of religious institutions as “blind guides” (once in Matthew 15, twice in Matthew 23). I don’t believe anyone took Jesus very seriously when he said that not one stone of the great buildings of Jerusalem would be left on another (Mark 13). And yet, about 40 years after Jesus spoke those words, it happened exactly as he said. How will you make yourself wiser, stronger, more resilient, more magnanimous than your leaders?

“There will be great human migration all over the world. Some of it will be normal, but much of it will have to be organized and agreed to between nations. If nations close their doors to the displaced peoples, it will be a tragedy never seen before. This tragedy will despoil the world in war and conflict.”

Who or what will guide us through the narrows? It was mentioned in an earlier paragraph that people in a stricken area won’t be able to move to the region next door, as it will be facing the same problem. I want to ask this revelation “Why are you telling me this? It’s not like I can open the door of my nation, or any other nation, to the displaced peoples. How am I supposed to respond to the need of the world, and to the blindness of my leaders?

How will we feed a million hungry guests?

“The peoples who will have to flee the stricken areas, they will have to be absorbed by nations around the world. They cannot simply move next door because the nation next door is likely to be facing the same crisis. It will be a great diaspora, a dispersion of peoples out of their homeland away from their traditional way of life into a very different set of circumstances. This will produce greater strain and difficulty.”

How will we feed a million hungry guests? As I pondered this, I could imagine that people living on an island facing rising sea levels couldn’t easily move to the island next door, as the island next door would be facing rising sea levels as well. People living in a coastal region facing rising sea levels couldn’t easily move to the coastal region next door. It was mentioned in an earlier paragraph that millions would have to flee the arid regions of the world. People fleeing an arid region couldn’t easily move to the arid region next door.

“Primary here is literally how will you feed the peoples of the world when the world loses 30% of its agriculture, which is what you are really facing, you see? Violent weather, the change in the climate and the impact upon the world’s geologic and biologic systems will create so much imbalance, that even if you could find a home for all of the displaced peoples, how would you feed them? And the residents of the receiving nations, how will they respond towards this? These are questions that have yet to be answered, questions that you should now consider—you who stand at the threshold of great change, you who perhaps have the luxury to consider these things and to plan your life and to rearrange your priorities.”

How will we feed a million hungry guests? The Old Testament prophet Ezekiel was shown a valley of dry bones. God asked the prophet “Son of man, can these bones live?” The prophet answered “Sovereign Lord, you alone know.” It is as if the purpose of this paragraph is to get us out of thinking that with a little technical and logistical cleverness, we’ll get through this series of big, ongoing disruptions. It’s going to take more than that.

“The cities will become so filled with people that it will be very difficult to provide food and water for them, even in the well-established countries, even in the countries where there is greater affluence. How will you feed a million new people added to a city of millions already? The teeming city, you can hear the sounds. How much can a city hold? What are the limits of its provision? What is the tolerance of its people?”

How will we feed a million hungry guests? 20th Century American writer Robert Heinlein wrote: “Animals can be driven crazy by placing too many in too small a pen. Homo sapiens is the only animal that voluntarily does this to himself.” The problems are so much more than just food and water. How well can you live without the artifacts of your culture? How well will people be able to live without a certain amount of private space? What kind of stress will the million new visitors put on the physical and social infrastructure? The phrase “strain and difficulty” mentioned above, is a very polite way of putting it.

“The situation will become so severe that even families in the wealthy nations will have to consider taking a family from a poorer nation into their home. How many people will be willing to do this? How bad does it have to get before people’s preferences, prejudices and personal requirements are superceded by a critical need?”

How will we feed a million hungry guests? You may not consider yourself to be wealthy. But if you have options as to what to eat, what to wear, and so forth, you are relatively wealthy. You might even be rich without thinking you’re rich. I wonder whether anyone gets it when I write about how far out of your current self you’re going to have to get to be a strong contributor during times like these. I wonder whether I get it.

How Long Shall They Kill Our Prophets

How long shall they kill our prophets

In the past year, American media reexamined the “suicide letter.” This was a typewritten, anonymous letter purporting to come from a disenchanted civil rights activist in 1964. In fact, it was written by William Sullivan, a high-ranking official in the FBI. It threatened to expose Dr. King for his extramarital affairs. The FBI obtained knowledge of these affairs in the course of their surveillance of Dr. King. The final paragraph reads…

“King, there is only one thing left for you to do. You know what it is. You have just 34 days in which to do (this exact number has been selected for a specific reason, it has definite practical significant. [I believe this was related to when Dr. King would receive the 1964 Nobel Peace Prize.] You are done. There is but one way out for you. You better take it before your filthy, abnormal fraudulent self is bared to the nation.”

The New Message from God uses the word Knowledge to describe the part of a person that is immune to seduction, persuasion, manipulation, blackmail. One of the steps in the book Steps to Knowledge is Step 89, “My emotions cannot dissuade my Knowledge.” I assert that Dr. King’s emotions could not, did not dissuade his Knowledge. History shows that Dr. King was not dissuaded by the “suicide letter”

What did Dr. King know? I claim that he shared what he knew in the 1963 “I Have A Dream” speech.

“In a sense we’ve come to our nation’s capital to cash a check. When the architects of our republic wrote the magnificent words of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence, they were signing a promissory note to which every American was to fall heir. This note was a promise that all men, yes, black men as well as white men, would be guaranteed the “unalienable Rights” of “Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” It is obvious today that America has defaulted on this promissory note, insofar as her citizens of color are concerned. Instead of honoring this sacred obligation, America has given the Negro people a bad check, a check which has come back marked “insufficient funds.”

But we refuse to believe that the bank of justice is bankrupt. We refuse to believe that there are insufficient funds in the great vaults of opportunity of this nation. And so, we’ve come to cash this check, a check that will give us upon demand the riches of freedom and the security of justice.”

How long shall they kill our prophets? As long as the prophets declare what they know.

The Refugees, How Will They Be Sustained?

This is the third post in a series of posts on the New Message from God revelation “The Race to Save Human Civilization,” received by Marshall Vian Summers in 2009. The first post is here, and the second post is here. These two posts looked at the first eight paragraphs of The Race to Save Human Civilization. So far, we are told humanity faces great challenges due to a disrupted climate. There will be many refugees leaving parts of the world which can no longer support human settlement. These migrations will cause great social disruption. This is the ninth paragraph.

The refugees, how will they be sustained?

“People today feel already that things are not normal, things are not right. There is great anxiety concerning people’s view of the future. Already the Great Waves are beginning to impact the peoples of the world, diminishing nations’ economies, forcing people into ever greater situations of strain and competition. Even today there is a great struggle over who will have access to the food, the water and the energy resources in many, many parts of the world.”

The refugees, how will they be sustained? The Great Waves of Change is the term used by the New Message from God to describe a series of large, ongoing disruptions to humanity’s customary way of life. The Great Waves of Change is one of the books of the New Message from God.

“Yet who is watching the signs, the signs that Great Waves of change are now coming? Who is paying attention? For those very few who are, who has the courage and the strength to recognize that this is a calling—a calling for service and contribution, a calling for them to reconsider their lives, their circumstances, their activities and their obligations?”

The refugees, how will they be sustained? I consider the word signs to mean events such as the 500-year flood of the city of Passau, Germany, the flooding of three-quarters of Queensland, and the Tohuku earthquake and tsunami. I can understand the words that this is a calling for service and contribution, but they haven’t worked their way down into my soul just yet.

“Human migration will be one of the great problems that the Great Waves of change will produce. In the teeming cities in the poorer nations, where will these people go, and how will they be sustained? Will they be left to die, to emerge into war and famine? This is something that a few people in the world today are beginning to consider because the signs are so very evident.”

The refugees, how will they be sustained? The United Nations recently reported that the World Food Programme has run out of money for feeding Syrian refugees in Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq and Turkey. To solve the present and future problems will take an out-of-the-ordinary creativity, an out-of-the-ordinary compassion, an out-of-the-ordinary cooperation.

“It is not the end for humanity, but it is a transition to a different kind of world—a new world, a world of declined resources, a world of diminished assets, a world that will require tremendous cooperation between nations if human civilization is to survive.”

The refugees, how will they be sustained? It would seem that this is more than a mere logistics problem, getting food and water from one place to another. I can imagine people saying “Why are we feeding refugees from nations that are our enemies?” Why is their suffering our problem? Aren’t they responsible for their own situation? If someone is asking questions like these, they haven’t fully considered a Great Waves of Change world yet. If we think some refugees should be fed, and others should not, we have much bigger problems on the inside.

Windy With A Chance Of M-Class

This is another one of those musical experiments that I make from time to time. The song “Maggot Brain” by the group Parliament contemplated the future of Earth.

Windy with a chance of M-class

As I listened to the guitar playing of Eddie Hazel, I recalled the ferocity of nature, of the solar wind, of solar flares. One day the solar weather, the speed and density of the solar wind, the likelihood of solar flares, will be as important as the weather forecast is today. I therefore give you “Windy With A Chance of M-Class”

Today at 0050 UT Jan 15 the Solar wind speed was 387.4 kilometers per second, while the solar wind density was 4.5 protons per cubic centimeter.

The solar wind data (velocity and proton density) are derived from real-time information transmitted to Earth from the ACE spacecraft and reported by the NOAA Space Environment Center. The location of ACE at the L1 libration point between the earth and the sun enables the spacecraft to give about a one hour advance warning of impending geomagnetic activity.

The largest X-ray Solar Flare over the past six hours was a C3 at 2325 UT on January 14. The largest X-ray Solar Flare over the past 24 hours was an M2 at 1258 UT on January 14.

A solar flare is an explosion on the Sun that happens when energy stored in twisted magnetic fields (usually above sunspots) is suddenly released. Flares produce a burst of radiation across the electromagnetic spectrum, from radio waves to x-rays and gamma-rays.

Scientists classify solar flares according to their x-ray brightness in the wavelength range 1 to 8 Angstroms. There are 3 categories: X-class flares are big; they are major events that can trigger planet-wide radio blackouts and long-lasting radiation storms. M-class flares are medium-sized; they can cause brief radio blackouts that affect Earth’s polar regions. Minor radiation storms sometimes follow an M-class flare. Compared to X- and M-class events, C-class flares are small with few noticeable consequences here on Earth.

Someday in the not too distant future, some weatherman will use the phrase “windy with a chance of M-class.”

Where Will They Go, The Ones Who Did Not See?

Where will they go, the ones who did not see?

This is the fifth paragraph from The Race to Save Human Civilization.

“Millions of people will have to flee the arid regions of the world. Coastal regions will be flooded and impacted by tremendously powerful storms and violent weather. People will have to move due to economic reasons—failure of local economies and in some cases national economies.”

The United Nations (UN) uses the term “drylands” to describe deserts, semi-desert regions, grasslands and rangelands. The UN reports that roughly 340 million people live in either desert or semi-desert regions.

When I looked through the member nations of the United Nations, there are a number of island nations, such as the Bahamas, Cape Verde, the Comoros, etc. The populations of these islands are much smaller than that of the arid regions, but they may have to move as well. Where will they go, the ones who did not see?

When I look at this animation of global rainfall from 1998 to 2014, I get the idea that rainfall patterns have been reasonably stable during this period. But in the greater scheme of things, this is a pretty short observation period. Why should these patterns change? I don’t know. I can imagine multiple possibilities. All I know is that the New Message from God teaches on multiple occasions that the future for which you can now prepare will contain great climate-based social disruptions.

“Where will they all go, these people, who did not see and did not recognize? Who will accept them into their nation? Who will accept the flood of thousands and millions of people who must now leave their homelands or who must relocate within their own nation? The social disruption will be immense. The political tension will be immense. The call for compassion and the ending of grievances will be immense. This will be a humanitarian tragedy and a humanitarian need on a scale never seen before.”

In my nation of America, there is vigorous debate at this moment regarding the issue of immigration. What would happen if the people in the arid regions of Mexico had to flee because they couldn’t grow food there anymore? Will we accept them into our nation? What will they do if we don’t? “The social disruption will be immense” is a relatively polite way of putting it. Where will they go, the ones who did not see?

“The world cannot afford to descend into chaos or humanity will not have a future. Really, what is at stake here is rescuing human civilization. Human civilization that seems so dominant, so powerful and so well established today, tomorrow and the days to come will seem ever more fragile and vulnerable.”

While there is debate on the value of the number, many people have observed throughout the ages that a human society is k missed meals away from anarchy/revolution, where 3 <= k <= 9. Where will they go, the ones who did not see? And what will they do when they get there?

“It is really now a race to save human civilization from collapse and ruin. This is something that any person can see once they are alerted to the Great Waves of change, once they begin to listen to the sounds of the world and see the signs that the world is producing.”

This is clearly not about just getting you and your loved ones through a particular event. I realize that many people will consider this a jarring message. But where will they go, the ones who did not see? And what will you do when they come to a country near you?

Even A Victory Is A Funeral

The Old Testament story of David mourning the death of his rebellious son Absalom is the only instance I know of a victorious sovereign mourning the death of the opposing leader after a battle (2 Samuel 18).

I share this because I recalled it when I recently read this passage from the Tao Teh Ching. I consider it part of my preparation to become fluent in the religions of the world. I read this book with the working hypothesis that what Lao Tzu called the Tao (“the way” or “the path”) is what people like me call Knowledge. I am therefore sharing this passage with the word “Knowledge” replacing the word “Tao.” There are many translations available. This one is by John C. H. Wu.

Fine weapons of war augur evil.
Even things seem to hate them.
Therefore, a man of Knowledge does not set his heart upon them.
In ordinary life, a gentleman regards the left side as the place of honor.
In war, the right side is the place of honor.

As weapons are instruments of evil,
They are not properly a gentleman’s instruments;
Only on necessity will he resort to them.
For peace and quiet are dearest to his heart,
And to him even a victory is no cause for rejoicing.

To rejoice over a victory is to rejoice over the slaughter of men!
Hence a man who rejoices over the slaughter of men cannot expect to thrive in the world of men.
On happy occasions the left side is preferred:
On sad occasions the right side.
In the army, the Lieutenant Commander stands on the left,
While the Commander-In-Chief stands on the right.
This means that war is treated on a par with a funeral service.
Because many people have been killed, it is only right that survivors should mourn for them.
Hence, even a victory is a funeral.

I consider this passage (Chapter 31) to resonate with Step 287 of Steps to Knowledge, “With Knowledge I cannot be at war.”

King David cried out “O my son Absalom! My son, my son Absalom! If only I had died instead of you—O Absalom, my son, my son!” (2 Samuel 18:33, New International Version) For David, this victory was indeed a funeral. I pray that in the next war, the victors will mourn the losers’ casualties, that we might see the truth that even a victory is a funeral.

The Back Of The Hand To Everything

There are 240 Google results for the exact phrase “I love Mary Oliver.” There are 6 Google results for the exact phrase “I hate Mary Oliver.” That pretty much tells you what people think about this 20th-and-21st Century American poet.

The back of the hand to everything

I read her book “A Thousand Mornings” slightly over a year ago. I believed that some of the poems in that book would come in handy in conveying certain feelings here. That time has now come.

This poem should be construed as an interlude of sorts in my contemplation of the New Message from God revelation “The Race to Save Human Civilization,” received in 2009 in Aleppo, Syria. This poem paints a picture of the disrupted climate and violent storms mentioned in the revelation.

It didn’t behave
like anything you had
ever imagined. The wind
tore at the trees, the rain
fell for days slant and hard.
The back of the hand
to everything. I watched
the trees bow and their leaves fall
and crawl back into the earth.
As though, that was that.
This was one hurricane
I lived through, the other one
was of a different sort, and
lasted longer. Then
I felt my own leaves giving up and
falling. The back of the hand to
everything. But listen now to what happened
to the actual trees;
toward the end of that summer they
pushed new leaves from their stubbed limbs.
It was the wrong season, yes,
but they couldn’t stop. They
looked like telephone poles and didn’t
care. And after the leaves came
blossoms. For some things
there are no wrong seasons.
Which is what I dream of for me.

When I contemplate the Great Waves of Change, the difficult times ahead, I recall that line from Mary Oliver’s poem, “The back of the hand to everything.” I believe nature will try to muddle through, pushing out new leaves from stubbed limbs. But will it be enough?
